Mara Jade Blaster - Unfinished Resin Casting

Regular price $45.00 $0.00

This sale is for a resin casting of my Mara Jade blaster. The sculpt was based on images from various comic books, and is my best approximation of them since the details in comics can change from one panel to the next!

This is a raw casting, straight out of the mold, so it will need to be finished by you. I pressure cast the blasters so there are only a few small air bubbles which are easy to fill with a bit of putty. I like to use the modeling putty you can find in hobby shops, or 3M Acryl Putty. The mold seams are snug so there tends to be very little excess resin along the seams. There is a small air vent between the trigger and the trigger guard, and the vent always fills up with resin during casting. That extra bit of resin can be removed, or you can leave it in place to help assure weapon check personnel that the blaster is a prop. I will cut away most of the pour sprue at the base of the grip, but you will need to finish trimming away the extra material. A mouse sander or dremel both work well for this job. Fill any air bubbles or low spots, sand away the pour sprue and any traces of the seams, and then you're ready to paint!

New resin castings should always be washed before you paint them. Use dish soap and scrub it well to help remove any dust, skin oils, or lingering traces of the mold release. I recommend using a good quality primer (I like automotive primers or Krylon), and then a black paint. On my personal blaster I followed that up with a light spray of gunmetal to give the blaster a more metallic look. Be sure to give the paint plenty of time to cure before trooping with the blaster to avoid scratches in the paint.

Photographs:
The blaster photos shown in this sale are not of the same blaster which would be shipped to you. They are examples, so I won't have to take pictures of the same basic thing over and over again! I also included a finished costume photo to show the size of the blaster. The blaster I ship will be cast from the same mold as those in the sample pictures, and will look identical save for any natural variations in the casting process.

Combined Shipping Costs:
The blaster will be shipped in a small box if it is ordered alone. If the blaster is ordered with other items from my shop, I can combine shipping and refund any extra shipping costs that were charged.

I would be happy to help with any Mara Jade costuming questions, so please feel free to ask!
