Astraal Vao Costume

I am in the process of clearing out my costumes that I know I won't be wearing again. (I'm 52 and fluffy now... there's no way I'm going to fit into these outfits anymore! :-D) There's no point in leaving them sitting in my costume tubs when someone out there might enjoy wearing them!

Astraal Vao

This is a costume that MUST be worn with alcohol based paints because they will not transfer paint onto the white fabric. I used Reel Creations paint, and even after wearing the costume to several conventions, it's still all white!

I am 5'7" and I weighed 130 pounds when I made this costume. I also wore it when I was 145 and it still fit but looked more snug on me.

Costume includes:

- Leather belt with multi-layer decorative panels on front and back.

- Front and back aprons (they attach to the back of the belt with velcro)

- Leggings with pintuck lines down the front center

- Long sleeved top with high collar. The top was sewn with a double layer of stretch cotton fabric to make it opaque. Without a double layer, you could see a line where the blue paint stopped and flesh tone began under the fabric. There are snaps up the back of the shirt and elastic on the bottom edge. The sleeves are each made with 14 pieces of fabric to create the double layer and all the decorative seams. It took hours and hours of pattern making and sewing!

Vest - Double layer of fabric with quilted shoulder pads.

Pair of white tights to be worn under the leggings to give them a brighter white appearance.

Funtasma boots. Size not labeled. I generally wear between an 8 and 10 in boots, since the sizes never make any sense from one brand to the next!

White underwire bra, size 36A. (Not sure why it's an A... maybe for the push-up factor? My other bras at the time were C cups!) I wore this bra while applying body paint, so there are some blue stains on it. Alcohol paint doesn't stain after it's dry, but it does stain while wet!

I might still have the lekku covering wraps, but it probably would not fit different lekku shapes and would need to be remade in white stretch cotton. I made the wraps by draping the fabric over my head and lekku, then I pinned and trimmed and re-pinned and sewed until it fit! I believe the wraps were double-layered, too, to make the white brighter.

Forehead wrap with velcro closure in the back.
