Mara Jade Accessories

Regular price $180.00 $0.00

I am in the process of clearing out my costumes that I know I won't be wearing again. (I'm 52 and fluffy now... there's no way I'm going to fit into these outfits anymore! :-D) There's no point in leaving them sitting in my costume tubs when someone out there might enjoy wearing them!

I am 5'7" and I was around 135 pounds when I made this costume.

This is an assortment of Mara Jade accessories that I made for my Mara costume. Since Mara has a variety of clothing options, I used to change up what I wore with that costume from time to time. Feeling confident? Cream cowl and gloves! Feeling less confident? Pull on the black gloves and cover up that butt with a cape!

Included:

- Leather belt with back holster.

- I'm not going to sell my original blaster for sentimental reasons, but I can include a new, unfinished resin casting of the same blaster. It will need to be trimmed, sanded, and painted. The holster was made to fit this blaster.

- Brown cape and cape clasp. (Honestly I was a bit disappointed in the paint job on this cape clasp. I can toss in a new casting that you can paint and use if you prefer.) This cape was dyed to match the original cape as closely as possible.... the properly lit version, not the one that looks lavender because of the purple stage lights that were used when they photographed the costume.

- Cream colored cowl. The long side goes in the back to provide a nice drape around your head!

- Goggles. Not the best goggles ever, but I loved them!

- Lace front human hair wig. The bleach and red dye were hard on this wig and the hair doesn't look super healthy anymore. A good round of conditioner might help. I also have the wide curling iron that I used on this hair... I'll never use it for anything else, so if you want it you can have it! I don't have the wig glue anymore, but I do have some wig tape.

- Synthetic wig. This is the wig that I used when I didn't have the time or energy to apply the lace front wig.

- Red eyebrow pigment, because my brown eyebrows always looked funny with red hair! I applied a VERY THIN layer of pigment and it really helped.

- Knee armor and quilted fabric pads. The knee plates attach to the pads with velcro (the elastic band is largely decorative and doesn't really help much), and the pads attach to the knees of the jumpsuit with velcro as well.

- Fiberglass shin armor. This armor is form-fitting and doesn't accommodate wider calf sizes. I had thin legs when I sculpted the armor, and I made it a bit too snug. I always had to wear very thin boots (vinyl, not leather). You can leave a gap open in the back if the armor is too tight, I suppose. I used a heavy strip of velcro in the front to close the armor like a clamshell, then I put on the armor, and finally I used thin strips of velcro tucked in the top and bottom of the armor to close it in the back. Sometimes the armor started to open a bit in the back as I walked around, so to solve this I would cut a little  strip of black stick-on velcro and I would attach that to an inconspicuous spot on the back of the armor to hold it closed. That worked really well, and I'd just peel it off when I was ready to take the costume off again. This armor has seen a LOT of mileage and is starting to show some wear and tear. I like it because it looks like it's been worn by a woman who gets out there and does things. If you prefer a pristine shine, you can sand and repaint it. There are some spots that could use a touchup where the red bondo is showing through. (I'm thinking I started doing some touchup repairs with the bondo years ago, then never repainted over it, maybe?)

- Size 10 Merona boots. These are starting to show some wear and may not last long, but they can give you a good idea of what fits well under the shin armor.

- Black and cream gloves. The cream gloves I have now are not the ones from my costume pictures, and I'm not sure if I ever wore them. The cream gloves I originally used were suuuuper thin leather, and they started coming apart at the seams so I had to retire them. The gloves I have now were the replacement.

- Shoulder harness. This piece is in good condition as far as durability goes, but it is showing cosmetic age. The fiberglass piece in the back is a bit scratched up, so you can sand and repaint it if you want. The leather also shows some water stains because it rained on us during a parade once, and I couldn't get to a dry area until I was good and wet! I turned my back to the rain so the water spots are mostly in the back. There is also a bit of antiperspirant transfer that happens over time because this is a piece of leather up against your armpit, I always rub it off with a damp cloth or a soft brush. If you don't like the harness, you can use it as a pattern for making a new one.

- I do not have the black bodysuit anymore, sorry. The seams wore out and it had to be tossed. I do still have the black dancer's bodysuit that I wore underneath to help smooth the lines of the costume. I also have a box of unused 4 way stretch pleather that I had purchased for making a new bodysut, but I never got around to it. You can have that fabric if you'd like, but I caution that it is at least 5 years old and may not be durable in the long term. Pleather doesn't have a super long shelf life! It has been stored in a closet in my house, and it does still look good. Your choice!

Please note: Shopify may have trouble estimating the shipping price for this set because it's large and a bit heavy. If you are charged too much for shipping, I will refund the extra.
