Partial Astraal Vao Costume

Regular price $55.00 $0.00

I am 5'7" and I was around 160 pounds when I made this costume.

This is a costume that requires alcohol based body paint to keep the white fabric clean! Water based paint would stain the fabric, but alcohol paints look perfect all day long! I used Reel Creations, though I didn't try very hard to match the reference picture's color... I wanted a brighter blue!

---------------------------------

This is a partial costume - I no longer have the tabard or the shoes.

Costume Includes:

- Sleeveless bodysuit made from white stretch velvet

- Waist cincher. The cincher is made as a short corset with a busk in the front and strings in the back. The outer layer is stretch velvet with a satin edge.

- Stretch velvet arm covers with elastic at the tops to hold them up. (These did slide down a bit as I wore them because I didn't make the elastic quite snug enough and I think I should have used a wider elastic option. It was kind of fun to see the way an occasional female costumer would approach to tug up an arm cover for me and then use it as a reason to start chatting. It happened several times!)

- Neck cover. This was just a tube of stretch velvet with velcro in the back that was used to cover my neck and keep the sides of the head wraps held in close. I don't think I hemmed the edges... they were just turned under when I put it on to keep the size and shape more flexible.

- I do not have the tabard anymore, but I do have the pattern that I made for it. I can include that, and I have the silkscreen that I made for applying the design to the fabric with fabric paint if you would like that also. I spent hours figuring out the pattern, making the silkscreen, and then testing different paints to see what would work best. I ended up using a satiny fabric and white fabric paint mixed with a small amount of fabric puff paint so it had a bit of a 3-D texture when the paint was ironed to set it. That part was long and tedious, but also quite fun! (Honestly, I felt the tabard came out waaay too stiff, so I would have recommended making it over again even if I'd still had it. I used iron-on interfacing on the fabric and I shouldn't have.)

- I do not have the shoes anymore, sorry. I found a pair of Clarks brand shoes on ebay that had the exact same heel shape as the reference picture, and I painted them white with Angelus leather paint.

- I believe I still have the lekku cover, but I don't think it would be of use. It was specifically made for that shape of lekku, and that shape isn't available anymore. It would most likely need to be made over again. I might still have a supply of leftover stretch velvet... if I do, I can include that for making a new wrap. If not, I found the fabric at JoAnns.

- I think I do still have the quilted forehead wrap. It closes in the back with velcro.
